This month the Power of Culture celebrates its tenth birthday. Based on the conviction that culture is anything but peripheral, the website has been contributing to the international debate on culture and development for ten years. Themes from Our Creative Diversity (1995), the report by the World Committee for Culture and Development, were the starting point of the website. In November 1996 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science established the Power of Culture based on the conference with the same name organised that year in Amsterdam. Speakers from all over the world exchanged ideas on Our Creative Diversity during the conference.
Since 1996, the website has been drastically restyled a number of times. The report texts and articles about the conference as well as the conference report in text, photos and audio recordings can still be found on the site.
The Power of Culture adopted its current style, as a monthly magazine, informative guide and newsletter, in 2003. Maintenance of the website was assumed by NCDO in August 2006.
