| In 1952, the
Language Movement served as a platform for Bengali
nationalism. Students sacrificed their lives
for their mother language, Bangla. For the first
time in world history a country defined itself
by its language and culture.
In 2000, UNESCO declared 21st February as the
International Mother Language Day. Roads, trees
and other places near monuments are ornamented
with language elements.
